Guinea launches an orientation platform for technical and vocational education - Agence Ecofin

(Agence Ecofin) - In order to present vocational training offers to young Guineans, the government has launched a platform. This platform, in addition to grouping training courses, seeks to establish a better organization of the sector.
The Ministry of Technical Education and Vocational Training (METFP) launched on Tuesday, August 2, the platform " Guinea pro course "for the guidance and care of technical and vocational education learners.
The platform presents the training offers by specifying the location, the level of access, the number of years of study and the job opportunities for each offer. It includes approximately 500 training courses in several fields, including health, finance, transportation, construction, information technology, marketing and languages (English). These courses are offered by public and private institutions and are accessible either by competitive examination or by application.

After choosing their courses, students can also register directly on the platform by creating an identification account. According to the Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, Alpha Bacar Barry (photo), this will allow to control the number of students and statistics in the field.
"The first thing in technical education is how many people we have. There are how many people enrolled in our schools, whether it's private schools or public schools. From that point on, we can aggregate the data to know what kind, what percentage of people are enrolled in what stream so that at the end, we can decide." explained the Minister.
The other reason is that the platform is used as a tracing tool for learners, in that it allows for tracking their journey from training to employment. This last feature will be introduced to the platform later. It is also planned to integrate into the platform, and this through blockchain technology, a system for managing examinations and another for securing diplomas to reduce corruption in the education system.
"Parcours pro Guinée" reflects Conakry's efforts to develop technical education and vocational training as a means of curbing unemployment, and at the same time, to meet the need for manpower to support economic development.
In addition, METFP plans to launch other platforms to allow learners to take distance learning courses accessible via smartphone.
